Photography: Is summer cancelled this year?

Though being 5 years old, knowing letters, numbers and almost being able to tell the time on an analogue watch, some things still puzzle my son aged 5.
In example; the weather.
Again today (on the 14th of july, 2012) my son stayed inside, staring out the window at yet another shower. I caught him looking rather confused and then asking:
“Dad.. Is summer cancelled this year?”
In Denmark, so far, we’ve have had one week of summer back in the start of june, and besides that, windy, sad days with showers upon showers and temperatures as if we were halfway through the autumn.
To my son, summer and summer holidays is all about eating lots of ice creams, playing carefreely in the sun and swimming in a pool.
But so far, my son’s speedos only get wet because of the rain coming from above:
